Among collectors of fine antique porcelains, French porcelain has been and continues to be highly sought after and used not only to decorate but serve homes around the world. A long history and tradition of antique French porcelain manufacture established itself as early as the late 1600’s with a few fine artists creating the earliest French soft paste porcelain at Rouen. Faience makers used deep colors and relief designs to make mostly functional pieces like open salt cellars.

The ideas and the artists spread out to other places such as Lille & Strasbourg after which the Paris region became home to porcelain makers of most of the hard paste porcelains available today. There are many familiar names in antique French porcelain such as Choisy-Le-Roi, Quimper, Sarreguemines, Old Paris, Sevres and most famously, Limoges. This era, from about 1770 to today, encompasses a number of manufacturers of high quality antique hard paste porcelain. Antique French porcelain is highly decorative and can be found in many shapes and forms such as figurines, vases, plaques or chargers, antique humidors, fernery, decorative jardinières with pedestals, serving plates and dinner services.
