 .: Antiques - Antique Dresden Porcelain :.Numerous factories produced fine antique china in the Dresden region of what is now known as Germany, which consititutes today’s antique Dresden porcelain category. Augustus II, king of Poland, a passionate collector, founded the Royal Saxon Porcelain Manufactory in 1710 in Meissen. The Meissen Factory experienced its golden age from 1730 - 1750 with Johann Herold as master enameler. After a time of suspended production, the factory resumed, but never achieved its former greatness. In the 19th century, the factory reissued many of its earlier antique porcelain forms, marked as "Dresden", which differentiated this issue from its earlier production.
Many fine examples of this highly decorative antique Dresden porcelain can be found in figurines, urns, vases, baskets, elegant table services, and figural compotes, lamps and candlesticks. Hand-painted portraiture is common along with hard paste relief florals to distinguish antique Dresden porcelain among collectors today.
